Ladies and gentlemen… we have an idea for you. It’s a brilliant idea too! With Christmas approaching, it’s time to get strategic. Buy your other half a gift voucher for a “couples special” at Hidden Cove Day Spa. That way, you’ll be spoiling your beloved with a fantastic present AND you’ll be totally pampered as well. It’s such a clever plan, and you’ll be ever-grateful when you meet Jerilee Pawlowski and Jeenie Deneulain as we did last week.
Hidden Cove Day Spa… A Real Find
You’ll find Hidden Cove in Tinderbox in the D’Entrecasteaux Channel region, about 25 minutes from central Hobart. It’s an easy drive via Kingston and Blackmans Bay; and a mere hop, skip and a jump from Villa Howden. Upon arrival, expect to be greeted at the front door with a warm smile. The lovely Jerilee welcomed us into her day spa and treated us like royalty. We also met her experienced and equally lovely colleague, Jeenie.
Shown to the treatment room, we were introduced to a pair of massage tables and left alone to disrobe and get comfortable under the towels. The room was liberally scattered with Phaska candles. Jerilee and Jeenie returned to work their magic and sooth our tired and stressed bodies. If only we could be transported there again right now!
Hidden Cove Day Spa offers clients a vast range of treatments and packages. We’re talking here about the couples special; but judging by the quality of our experience, all the options would no doubt be equally impressive. Reflexology, manicures, pedicures, waxing, tinting, facials, spray-tans, make-up… Jerilee will have you looking and feeling a million bucks. A hot stone massage? On the bucket list.
From the Massage to the Day Spa
From the massage tables, we adjourned across the courtyard in our fluffy robes to the 8-seater spa room. A bottle of champagne and a home-made platter with cheese, dips, olives and crackers was awaiting our arrival. It was all divine. The spa was beautifully heated, and we sipped bubbles as we gazed over the river views. That was pretty divine too!
Jerilee trained and worked as a chef before a major career-change, re-training as a beauty therapist. She went on to further study in the health therapies field, but has always retained her interest in food. Every choice for the platter was simply perfect, taking full advantage of the fresh Tasmanian produce available. We can imagine the picnic baskets and high teas prepared for guests would be exemplary.
There was one teeny, tiny “flaw” (if you could call it that) in our otherwise perfect Hidden Cove Day Spa experience, and you could possibly benefit from our hindsight. We really wished we could’ve stayed the night!! Having to leave the day spa and return to the real world was less than ideal, to say the least. It would have been heavenly to retire to the retreat with the remaining champagne and cheese and take a nap before dinner.
From Day Spa to Overnight Accommodation
There are plans in place to develop brand new chalet accommodation at Hidden Cove Day Spa to cater for additional guests. The chalets will have a particularly special hillside location, affording views over the D’Entrecasteaux Channel to the South Arm Peninsula. Besides the views and obvious treatments, the surrounding region offers a wealth of attractions and opportunities for visitors. Although Jerilee can prepare meals for guests, she also happily recommended dining at The Beach Restaurant in nearby Blackmans Bay.
In our humble opinion, Hidden Cove Day Spa is already brilliant and soon to be even more so. But as always, you should make up your own minds when you visit in person. We’d be very pleased to know we’ve inspired an indulgent treatment or two upon publishing this article. And maybe… just maybe… there will be a very special opportunity for Think Tasmania readers to win a prize couples package just like ours, with thanks to Jerilee. We told you she was lovely!
