The Henry Somerset Orchid Conservation Area is a lovely spot situated between Latrobe and Railton. Privately owned, trees have recently been cleared in some parts, but not along the walking trail while we were there.

Native Terrestrial Orchids: Henry Somerset Reserve

by Benita Bell

The Henry Somerset Reserve has at least 43 species of orchid. I might go there again to capture more even photos of the beautiful orchids. There’s a flat, effortless 5-10 minute walk with easy access for wheelchairs and prams. I often see older people pull up there just to walk their dogs.

You’ll find the Henry Somerset Orchid Reserve on Railton Road, about five kms south of the town of Latrobe. More information about the Henry Somerset Conservation Area can be found online.
