Hello and welcome. You might be wondering about the people behind Think Tasmania? Gavin and Tania live in Hobart, Tasmania. Together they’ve raised two outstanding humans to adulthood. Their sons both attend university; one studies in the US and the other at UTAS. A rescue mutt is the centre of their universe, and they all like walking Hobart trails together. Good times revolve around fine food, casual drinks, weekend drives and getaways.
About Think Tasmania: Hello!
Gavin is a software developer by trade; he’s also handy with a camera and takes many of the images. Gavin enjoys sport as a spectator now: motor-racing and cricket have emerged as favourites from the broad spectrum. But he’s not too fussy!
Historically, guest authors have featured… but Tania writes most of the articles for Think Tasmania now. She also hosts international visitors during their visit to Tasmania. Now her children are independent, Tania hopes to take more holidays, read more books, watch more movies and see more shows. Not too much to ask, really!
Think Tasmania was launched way back in 2010 and has evolved into the website you see here today. Tania and Gavin just enjoy sharing their first-hand experiences with a fabulous community of readers. They’ve met amazing people, eaten amazing dinners and seen amazing sights. As a lifestyle journey, they couldn’t have asked for anything more.
Please note: Think Tasmania is not a directory with constantly updated listings. We don’t cover everything; we simply blog about our life in Tasmania. Sometimes we’re blessed with famils and freebies to write about, and we’ll let you know when that happens. We also earn a little income from affiliate links and advertising. And that’s all about us, in a nutshell. Thanks for stopping by.
Hi There,
What a terrific website. I am part of the designed;made market on Sunday and was curious how your website works. I belong to a group called Stitching & Beyond, we have a biennial exhibition called “Out of Hand” which is on this weekend at the Rosny Barn. I’d be happy to give you further information if you’re interested. Cheers, Mahdi
Hi Mahdi

I love the photos of Bay of Fires. We at Palana, on Flinders Island, have the same lovely red lichen rocks and the bay with its beautiful, white and wide sandy beaches. Beauty of Tasmania, and especially Palana, is truly wonderful, no matter what the weather. No wonder we settled here for our retirement!
We couldn’t agree more, Carita. All of Tasmania is wonderful in some special way. Enjoy your retirement.
Hi
My little family of three (my partner Ben, our 16month old daughter & myself) are thinking about moving to Tasmania.
We are living in the Byron Shire on the far north coast NSW.
The cost of living & the summer heat among many other things up here have had us looking to relocate to somewhere beautiful & family friendly we can settle for many years.
We would love our daughter to attend a Steiner school & the only Steiner in TAS is near Hobart.
Ben is a software engineer & I am studying online distance ed, so fast internet is important.
We love outdoor family activities & would like our daughter to get involved in music, sports, or anything that she may be interested in or passionate about as she grows.
We would love to hear from other families living in the area on what it’s like to raise a family in TAS & what’s it’s like for children growing up in the area.
Thank You
Sarah 🙂
We can certainly help you with information about all that Sarah. We’ll be in touch – plus we’ll open the conversation with all our readers so they can contribute their thoughts too. Best of luck with your plans… Tania
Thanks for your help
I look forward to hearing from any body with any knowledge & experiences.
🙂
You’re welcome Sarah. Others can follow the discussion at the specific article… Family Move to Tasmania.
