As you may be aware, we’ve been working on a Discover Strahan Phone App. Together with CEO Mike Fry, Think Tasmania’s IT guru (Gavin) is close to launching this exciting new collaboration. The Discover Strahan phone app will soon be available for free download for iPhone, iPad and Android and a mobile-friendly website version will cover any other smart-phone users.
What is the Discover Strahan Phone App?
From the home page, a “Directions” button will show you the way to get there. A map will outline the recommended route from your current location and provide alternate routes. These will be accompanied by driving times and distances.
Tell A Friend
Also from the home page, a “Tell a Friend” button will give users the ability to quickly share the Discover Strahan phone app with all their friends via email, Facebook, Twitter or SMS.
Maps and Info: Stay~Eat~Do~Shop~Other
Users will be able to click on individual buttons for each category and see maps of Strahan. Markers will show the exact location of each point of interest. The accommodation providers (for example) will be marked on one map. Clicking the markers will offer two options:
1. directions from your current location to the property
2. more information about the property: web address, contact details, description, etc.
When possible, we’ve included a link to the property’s online, mobile-friendly booking engine. Users of the Discover Strahan phone app will be able to book a room, directly from their mobile phones.
The information will also be provided in a categorised list, separating points of interest. Accommodation providers (again, for example) will be divided into sub-categories such as self-contained, bed and breakfast, caravans parks, etc.
The share feature has been designed to distribute the user’s experience of Strahan to all their friends and other phone app users. Travellers (and locals) will be able to leave comments or photos for other phone app users to see and simultaneously share those comments or photos to their own social media followers on Facebook or Twitter.
As the name would suggest, this section will showcase future events in the town of Strahan, listed in chronological order. Social media sharing will be enabled here too, so phone app users can leave comments and photos. An RSVP facility will also be provided; phone app users will be able to advise they’re attending an event and others will be able to see the guest list. Users will be able to easily add the event to their own phone calendar and set reminders too.
Gallery: Photos and Video
An image gallery will showcase photos of Strahan. We’ll have a video tab as well. Thanks to the photographic talents of Mike Fry, interested parties will be able to discover the delights of Strahan in pictures.
Listed operators will have the opportunity to provide special offers to users of the Discover Strahan phone app: discounts, deals, freebies etc to be redeemed via the phone app directly from the operator. Phone app users (again!) will be able to share this feature via social media.
Social Media Connectivity
Articles about Strahan will be updated to a blog feed as and when they’re published.
A very detailed forecast will be included to show the likely weather conditions in Strahan.
The travel tips section will provide helpful advice for the Tasmanian tourist, en route to Strahan from either Launceston or Hobart. These tips will be updated periodically to include additional essential information and suggestions.
A push notification for important information (eg road closure, special events, major news) will be sent periodically to users of the Discover Strahan phone app.
Additional Promotion via Think Tasmania
A very significant feature of the Phone App will come via Think Tasmania. We’ll be learning about lots of great businesses and features of Strahan, so we’ll be able to share those details with readers via our own website and social media channels. Each relevant article we publish will be listed in a dedicated Strahan index on the website; easy for all our readers to find, and then refer back to again any time in the future. Our best-practice SEO techniques will also attract additional Internet searchers looking for places to visit in Tasmania.
