A host of events to delight everyone was a good reason to visit Scottsdale and their scenic neighbouring townships as they celebrated their 40th Dorset Arts Festival.

Dorset Arts Festival: Delight to Behold

by Len Langan

The present depressing economic climate has hit many areas in Tasmania but it was obvious that the people of Dorset are courageous, buoyant and above all optimistic. Their spirit will triumph and it was a privilege to spend three days enjoying their well presented festival and their good old-fashioned genuine hospitality.

The Dorset Arts Festival proudly acknowledges their Rotary Club, the Dorset Council and the help of Janine Williams from the Scottsdale Visitor Information Centre in presenting the North East Arts & Crafts Annual Exhibition in their 40th year. All who helped demonstrated that the pioneer spirit is still very much alive in their hearts.

The arts and crafts, gardens, museums and country markets all well presented at numerous venues not only in Scottsdale, but in Derby, Jetsonville, Lietinna and Ringarooma were an inspiring experience.

These illustrations can only hint at the astonishing talent displayed, and they cannot begin to describe the quality of the luncheon we enjoyed at Scottsdale Art Gallery Cafe surrounded by Tasmanian art and gift-ware chatting to one of their gifted artists John Gibb.

North East Region of Tasmania

Not everyone can attend the annual Dorset Arts Festival; although we wish you could. But for all planning a trip to or around the delights of our beautiful island state the north east region of Tasmania should be a must on your agenda. The scenery is breathtakingly beautiful with accommodation to meet every requirement, wonderful food and when it is time to leave you are on the doorstep of our glorious east coast. Sand, sea and fresh air.

This is the way to discover Tasmania and keep some delightful memories in your heart forever.

Please Note ~ Think Tasmania received an invitation to visit the Dorset Arts Festival in Scottsdale from Graham, Christine and James at Tin Dragon Trail Cottages in Branxholm. They provided accommodation for Len Langan and his travelling companion and wife, Jill.

Tin Dragon Trail Cottages

Through the combined efforts of Len and Jill and the team from Tin Dragon Trail Cottages, Think Tasmania is able to feature the Dorset Arts Festival. We’ll also provide ongoing coverage via our various social media platforms (which started as a lead-up to the weekend). We thank them all for their continuing support and applaud their generous commitment to the promotion of north east Tasmania.

Len Langan lives in Longford with his wife Jill.  They are both passionate about Tasmanian heritage and tourism and things that can be done in this industry. Len writes about Tasmanian history  for both The Courier in Longford and the magazine Sagacity,  and works with Virtuosi taking music to rural areas.
