If you made it down to the Lazy May Markets last Sunday then I don’t have to tell you what a wonderful day we had. The skies were blue and the smell of sunscreen mingled with the delicious aromas coming from A Li’l Luscious Food and More and the Bentwood Coffee Van.

The sound of great music, laughter and poetry made the day extra-special and a huge thanks goes out to everyone involved in the Lazy May Markets.

It takes a community to make a market and we certainly have a great one here on our little island; people came from all around Hobart to snap up some eco-friendly, creative and sustainably made home-made Christmas pressies.

Local author, Marion Lucy, was on hand to sign copies of her latest children’s book “The Giant Bowl of Chocolate” and Joshua Vince had beautiful calendars of his Tasmanian landscape photography for purchase. Taroona is home to Melanie Fletcher, one of Tassie’s best face painters. Melanie amazed children and adults alike with her miniature Christmas “cheek” scenes and character face paintings.

Spoken Word Poetry Competition

We were especially delighted by our world-renown performance poet and all-round-great-guy, Young Dawkins, who was kind enough to be our Spoken Word Poetry Competition Guest Judge.

The deserving winner received a $30 Fullers Book Voucher and we were treated to brilliant original and classic poetry from a variety of performers, including the spectacular four-year-old, Master Dawkins! Another Spoken Word Poetry Competition will start at 12:00 noon during the next instalment of Lazy May Markets, too. So come along and join the fun: we want to hear you!

Food, Fun and Entertainment

Outside, A Li’l Luscious Food and More provided some hearty lunch options and inside, Brinda Dutta was serving her delicious Indian sweets and savouries. Another bumper line up of talented musicians including Bradfield on uke, Tilley, and Fiona Hutchison entertained us all day and kept our feet tapping.

The Personalised Cartoon Art and Free Drawing Zone with renowned cartoon artist and arts educator Bradfield Dumpleton was a huge success! The kids absolutely loved the drawing table and Bradfield shared tips and tricks for cartooning and illustration with many happy customers.
