On the outskirts of Ulverstone, opposite the beach with a splendid view of Bass Strait, is Moonlight Bay B&B. Jeff and Christine Crippen have owned and run this business for the last ten years and it’s a great place to stay if you need accommodation in the north west region of Tasmania.

Just recently we enjoyed a Romantic Escape Package in the Orontes Bridal Spa Suite. This suite is popular for romantic getaways, wedding nights, anniversaries and honeymoons. There are three gorgeous suites at Moonlight Bay B&B, each with its own opulent four-poster bed. There’s the…

  • Arcadia Suite with king bed and clawfoot bath
  • Strathmore Suite with queen bed, clawfoot bath and comfortable sitting room
  • Orontes Suite which has queen bed and double spa bath, and a second adjoining queen bedroom which can be used along with this suite if travelling with friends or family.

We were welcomed on arrival and shown around by Jeff and Christine before heading upstairs to enjoy a scrumptious afternoon tea with cakes, sandwiches, wine, coffee and a chat. What a lovely way to start our stay. Afterwards we settled into our beautiful room, which had an attractive four-poster bed complete with scattered rose petals and satin sheets.

There were chocolates and port by the bedside and two champagne flutes accompanied by a bottle of bubbly to enjoy later. The room also has a TV and electric kettle with assorted teas and coffee, fridge, iron and ironing board and it was toasty warm for our winter night’s stay with a heater and electric blanket on the bed.

The lounge room upstairs is at your disposal if you’d like to watch a DVD or Austar or listen to a CD. Moonlight Bay offers guests four-star bed and breakfast accommodation on a nightly basis or for longer stays; which includes a complimentary continental breakfast which can be enjoyed in your suite.

Moonlight to Daylight: Breakfast Feast

If you are feeling just a bit hungrier, there’s a choice of a full, cooked breakfast or a buffet continental breakfast, available between 8am and 9am in the guest dining room, which overlooks beautiful Bass Strait. An extra charge applies for these breakfast meals. The dining room menu includes: a choice of cereals, fruit, yoghurt, a basket of toast and spreads, juice and a variety of teas along with fresh percolated coffee.

The cooked breakfast includes eggs (your choice of poached, fried or scrambled) bacon, sausages, tomatoes, mushrooms and toast. There’s also eggs Benedict, eggs Florentine or scrambled eggs with smoked salmon. We sat down to a lovely prepared full English breakfast that satisfied our hunger for the rest of the day.
