Think Tasmania can certainly recommend The Old Woolstore Apartment Hotel as top-quality accommodation in Hobart with renewed confidence now. And not just because the place has won so many Australian Tourism Awards for the best deluxe property, either. We stayed there ourselves last weekend for a first-hand experience, so we could describe to our readers what they could expect when making their own booking. We also took a LOT of holiday snaps while we were there. None of the images will ever be published in a glossy sales brochure; they’re just regular photos showing the real deal.
Accommodation: The Old Woolstore Apartment Hotel
From the moment we checked in, to the time we drove away, we were made to feel welcome and comfortable. We couldn’t fault the service. Everyone was quick with a smile and a friendly word… the receptionist, the restaurant staff and the housekeeping crew included. The staff obviously act this way with everyone, because they didn’t know we’d be writing this website review. Only the Marketing Manager knew we were coming, but the team of people employed at the property do their work well. No wonder Hobart has just been rated one of the friendliest places in the world by Conde Nast Traveler magazine.
Parking the car was free and easy. There’s a five-minute drop-zone outside reception to unload bags, and plenty of parking spaces accessible from the Macquarie Street entry. During peak tourism season and festival events in Hobart, when The Old Woolstore Apartment Hotel can be filled to capacity, complimentary vouchers are supplied for a secure, 24-hour carpark nearby.
Friendly Staff, Free Parking and…
Friendly staff and free parking are all well and good, but the accommodation is clearly the most important issue. What. About. The Room? We’d say “absolutely perfect”. We were assigned a one-bedroom apartment, and we could actually live there permanently. The front door opened into a large living area, incorporating kitchen, dining and lounge areas, with a desk even! A sliding door opened onto a small balcony, and it was pleasant to have fresh air and see the heritage buildings of the Gasworks Village across the road.
Fully Self-Contained Accommodation
The bedroom had loads of room for luggage either side of the queen-sized bed. The bathroom, complete with washing machine, had a huge shower. I had to struggle with my environmentally-conscious self when it came to showering. It’s the kind of shower that makes you want to linger much longer than strictly necessary! And the toilet was in its own separate room, with an additional basin. You don’t see that very often in hotel rooms.
Fully self-contained accommodation doesn’t often come with 24-hour room service and a mini bar either; not to mention on-site facilities like restaurant, bar and guest lounge. Ordinarily, you wouldn’t expect a business centre, a fully-equipped gym and Olympic-class swimming pools and recreational amenities courtesy of the Hobart Aquatic Centre. At The Old Woolstore Apartment Hotel however, you get all that, plus the kitchen sink AND you have someone servicing your room every day. It’s the perfect combination for longer stays, so you can enjoy the best of both worlds.
On Saturday night, we ate dinner onsite in Stockman’s Restaurant, and we’ll go back there again for sure. We do live in Hobart after all, and we like to support the business owners who assist Think Tasmania in sharing all things Tasmanian with readers. We even have photos of the food and menu details to publish, but we’ll save all that for another time. The buffet breakfast on Sunday morning was also a real treat; a great option for the next family celebration.
Convenient Hobart Location
In closing, before we share our collection of holiday snaps, we’d be remiss not to mention the convenient location. We had the chance to research a great many things to do in Hobart during our weekend. There’s so many tourist attractions, places to visit and fabulous dining options, all within walking distance of The Old Woolstore Apartment Hotel. We could write an article every week detailing local points of interest, and have enough material to last a seriously long time.
